Headshot Prep Guide
Welcome! I’m looking forward to working with you. To help you feel confident and photo-ready, here’s a quick guide on how to prepare for your upcoming headshot session.
1. Dress Simply & Professionally
Choose solid colors in neutral or dark tones like navy, gray, black, white, or jewel shades. These photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you.
2. Avoid Patterns, Logos, or Graphics
Skip fine stripes, small checks, or loud prints. These can distort in photos. Stay away from visible logos unless they’re part of a uniform.
3. Bring One or Two Options
If you’re unsure, bring a couple of shirts, blouses, or jackets. Layers add variety and can create both formal and casual looks in one session.
4. Match the Company Look
Dress in a way that reflects your company’s culture - whether that’s business formal, smart casual, or creative professional.
5. Iron or Steam Your Clothes
Wrinkles are distracting and time-consuming to retouch. Make sure your clothes are freshly cleaned and pressed.
6. Hair and Grooming
Schedule haircuts 2–3 days before the shoot. Style your hair as you normally would. For facial hair, groom or shave cleanly. Bring a comb or product if needed.
7. Keep Makeup Natural
Stick to soft, matte finishes. Use blotting paper or powder to reduce shine - especially around the nose, forehead, and chin.
8. Hydrate & Sleep Well
Drink water the day before and aim for a good night’s rest. It helps with skin tone, under-eye brightness, and overall confidence.
9. Be Ready When You Arrive
Show up dressed and styled unless grooming services are provided on site. We’ll keep things smooth and efficient.
10. No Pressure - I’ll Guide You
Don’t worry about how to pose or smile. I’ll walk you through it so you look confident, approachable, and your best.
Bonus Tips
Jewelry & Accessories
Keep jewelry simple and minimal - nothing too shiny or distracting. Avoid large earrings or overly trendy pieces.
Glasses
If you wear glasses every day, wear them in the photo - but make sure they’re clean and anti-glare if possible. Bring a backup pair if the ones you wear reflect a lot of light.
Background & Cropping
Photos will typically be from the chest up with a clean, neutral background - so you can focus on your upper body presentation.
What to Expect During the Session
You’ll be guided throughout the process - no need to worry about posing. Sessions are short and efficient, with a few test shots to help you warm up.
After the Shoot
Photos will be delivered to your company rep for review and distribution. If you’d like to request a retouch, contact your coordinator or reach out directly.
